Subaru Announces Recall Involving Door Latches

Subaru of America, Inc. in cooperation with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a recall of model year 2010 Subaru Tribeca. The popular SUV has a defect that could cause the door to unlatch.

Door latch cables located inside the vehicle's front doors were improperly positioned and installed during manufacturing. The defect could cause the latch to catch the window and the door could unlatch and open when an occupant rolled the window up or down. If the door was to open unexpectedly passengers could be ejected from the vehicle or become distracted and cause a severe collision. The defective door latch could also trap occupants inside the vehicle.

Subaru will notify owners and dealers of the defect. Drivers can bring their defective Subaru to the dealer to have the door latch repositioned thus remedying the defect.

Honda Recalls Over 400,000 Vehicles

Honda Motor Corporation has issued a recall of 412,000 vehicles due to a "soft or low brake pedal." Consumers have reported that it takes longer and the brake pedal travels closer to the floor until the vehicle comes to a stop.

Honda has stated that the defect isn't associated with the brake pedal but with the Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) modulator that assists with braking. The problem occurs because some modulators were installed improperly, allowing air to enter the system during the self-check mode. Over time the air builds up causing the problem. Not all vehicles named in the recall are affected but Honda all recalled all the vehicles to ensure consumers are safe when driving their vehicles.

Recalled Vehicles:

2007-2008 Honda Odyssey
2007-2008 Honda Element

Consumers will be notified by Honda if their vehicle is defected and will be able to bring the recalled vehicle to a dealership to have it fixed free of charge.

General Motors Recalling over One Million Cars

General Motors is recalling 1.3 million compact cars due to a defective power steering motor. The motor can fail while driving causing drivers to lose power steering and potentially lose control of the vehicle. Over one thousand complaints were reported with 14 crashes to the National Highway Safety Traffic Administration.

General Motors asserts that the cars are safe to drive and drivers will be notified by a light and a chime when the power steering assist fails on the vehicle. Older model vehicles are more prone to the fail because in almost every report the fail occurred after 20,000 miles. If drivers experience a power steering fail they should immediately slow down and steer the vehicle to a safe place. Once there turn the car off and then back on, usually the power steering returns.

General Motors will notify drivers when parts are available and when they can began to be installed. All new cars are being outfitted with the new part before they leave the factory or the dealership lot.

Recalled Vehicles:
2005 to 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt
2007 to 2010 Pontiac G5
2005 and 2006 Pontiac Pursuit
2005 and 2006 Pontiac G4s
